From 17-19 March 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting the European Union’s Ambassador Lawrence Meredith and his team in New Plymouth who were getting a firsthand look at the innovation and talent that makes this region tick.

Lawrence spoke to some exciting insights on how Aotearoa and the EU can work together. The opportunities are huge, especially right now when the world needs bold thinking more than ever. Specifically talking to innovation and energy, Laurence highlighted:

  • NZ green innovation is turning heads globally, we're doing amazing stuff and the world is taking notice
  • Public-private partnerships: collaboration is how we move fast and move smart
  • Circular economy thinking - the EU is all over this, and there's so much we can learn from each other
  • Taranaki's expertise in energy and agriculture isn't just a regional strength, it's a superpower.
