Taranaki Energy Update wraps up for 2025

For the final Taranaki Energy Update of the year, presenters closed out with a special deep dive into 'Taranaki’s Future State'

Every month our Head of Industry and Government Engagement Jonathan Young hosts the Taranaki Energy Update - a forum dedicated to sharing insights, challenges and opportunities across the Taranaki region’s evolving energy landscape.

For the final session of the year, the Updates were closed out with a special deep dive into 'Taranaki’s Future State', featuring a lineup of speakers who brought forward-thinking perspectives on energy, environment and regional opportunity:

  • Finbar Kiddle, Strategy Lead, Taranaki Regional Council – Laying out future energy scenarios for Taranaki
  • Joshu Mountjoy, Sector Lead Energy, Earth Sciences NZ – Spatial planning and ecological assessment for offshore economic potential
  • Justin Peterson, CEO, Wells – The history and evolution of Wells in a changing energy landscape
  • Andrew Clennett, CEO, Hiringa – An overview of Hiringa Energy's many projects
  • Anne Probert, Director of Strategic and Sector Partnerships, Venture Taranaki – What 2025 held for Venture Taranaki
  • Sera Gibson – Nga Iwi o Taranaki's recent National Māori Energy Summit
  • Daniel Gnoth, GM Research and Insights, Ara Ake - Potential bioenergy opportunities for the region
  • Evelien Wallace, Energy Innovation Manager, Ara Ake - Upcoming research into geoheat use in Taranaki
  • Steve Francis, Community Energy Taranaki – Community energy and Community Energy Taranaki

Together, the group wrapped up a year of rich discussions and sector updates by looking ahead and exploring what’s possible for our region. A huge thank you to all our presenters from the year and to the community that turn up and shape the conversation.
